This is a very practical module, run in a newsroom set up. It will open with a recap of the basics covered under the news writing and reporting module, after which students will get into a practicum workshop involving several practical exercises, with a final tangible output(s) expected at the end of the module. Each workshop will begin with a light brief on a certain journalistic skill employed in a specialized project. This may include but not limited interviewing – for example an interview on a new environmental policy; interviews and filming a science lab, dealing with patients in terms of ethics, etc. After the few minutes then students working in their teams, will discuss and develop their pitches with the instructor’s guidelines. These will include interactive lectures, practical - Individual and group exercises, review and critique of stories on special topics (using newspapers/magazines, documentaries, etc), class presentations, Guest Speakers, research and report assignments; and reporting and writing project (field work).
