Brief description of aims and content
This module it aims at exposing students:
- To contemporary issues in the domain of industrial economics with special attention to Africa.
- To show that there are complexities in our understanding of the relevant market for competition purposes and that there are a number of competing perspectives in industrial economic which make public policy decisions problematic.
- To introduce students to economic theories used in the analysis of industries;
- To evaluate these theories in view of empirical evidence;
- To describe policy implications of these theories and their empirical evaluation.

Knowledge and Understandings
- Having successfully completed the module, students should be able:
- To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the well-established basic principles of industrial economics
- Identify and analyze elements of industrial structure and industrial concentration
- Explain the role of various implementing and facilitating agents of industrialization, technological capabilities and strategic industrial and trade policies
- Explain the impact of African industry in the context of international experiences
- Apply core economic theory and economic reasoning to applied topics.
- Show understanding of analytical methods, both theory- and model-based.
- Demonstrate understanding of verbal, graphical, mathematical and representation of economic ideas and analysis, including the relationship between them.

- Communicate effectively and clearly in written and oral formats

Demonstrate professional ethics in their day to day life.
