Brief description of aims and content
This module explores the origin and rationale of the prohibition of genocide. Since genocide occurs mostly during armed conflict, this module analyses the law on the use of force in international law.It also analyses how international humanitarian law is enforced with regard to the violations of human rights during those armed conflicts and how international criminal law as a means of holding individuals account for grave human rights violations intervenes. Moreover, it also gives an overview on development, functioning and challenges of international criminal courts and tribunals. This includes how rules and principles of international criminal law have been interpreted and applied since Nuremberg until the recent developments.
