PCT6114: Theories of conflict and conflict analysis
Semester 1
Brief description of aims and content
This module aims at providing an understanding of the causes and mechanisms of violent conflict. It starts with an outline of the schools of thought on contemporary conflict analysis. This is followed by a presentation of the mechanisms of nationalism and how the dichotomisation between “Us” and “Them” can escalate into violence and war. It also addresses the relationship between gender, nationalism and violent conflict.
