ET80364: Measurements and Instrumentation
Semester 3

The Measurement and Instrumentation module provides learners with fundamental knowledge and practical skills for accurately measuring electrical, electronic, and physical quantities using appropriate instruments and measurement systems. It covers the principles, functional elements, static and dynamic characteristics, measurement errors, statistical evaluation, standards, and calibration, followed by the operation of analog and digital electrical instruments, wattmeters, energy meters, instrument transformers, and frequency and phase measurement devices. The module also introduces signal-conditioning techniques, including bridge circuits, instrumentation amplifiers, filters, converters, sample-and-hold circuits, A/D and D/A conversion, multiplexing, data acquisition, and grounding. Learners further study storage and display devices and the classification, selection, and application of different transducers for measuring parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow, displacement, velocity, acceleration, torque, speed, viscosity, moisture, and pH.
