This module aims at introducing students to the understanding of algebraic structures ranging from magma to fields using techniques of abstract algebra. It places emphasis on the study of fundamental structures such as groups, rings, modules, and fields, together with related concepts including subgroups, subrings, subfields, homomorphisms, and isomorphisms. The course further focuses on conjugacy, normal subgroups, quotient groups, and key results such as Lagrange’s, Cayley’s, and Sylow's theorems. In addition, attention is given to the applications of abstract algebra in group representation theory and other areas of mathematics and education.
