This module aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the principles and concepts of white blood cell disorders. It covers the classification, pathophysiology, and clinical features of both benign and malignant leukocyte disorders, including leukaemias, lymphomas, and other proliferative or reactive conditions. The module also emphasises laboratory investigation methods used in the diagnosis and monitoring of these disorders, such as peripheral blood film examination, bone marrow analysis, immunophenotyping, and molecular diagnostic techniques. In addition, students will explore current treatment approaches, including chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive care, while understanding the role of the laboratory in guiding clinical management and monitoring patient outcomes.
