Indicative Content

 

·         Concept of rural resource development and the need for regional policy, the physical basis of rural development:

·         Agro-climatology, and water resources, soils, and vegetation, rural population dynamics – sources of basic demographic data: population composition, components of population changes, settlement types, and functions. It Focuses on the social structure and organization of rural communities,

·         Optimization of rural land use and sustainable development: Von Thunen Theory, Linear programming, etc.

·         Rural-urban contrast/imbalance, migration, especially rural urban migration and its implication in rural development.

·         Differences in socio-economic amenities in rural and urban areas and the systems approach to understanding rural problems and development.

·         An overview of rural development efforts in Rwanda, the role of government, quasi-government, non-governmental institutions in rural development, strategies and various approaches and constraints to rural development in Rwanda, integrated rural development and the role of culture in rural development.

·         Role of science and technology in the rural real estate environment.  

  • Rural Economy -  poverty, Rural land titling, and collateralization, Rural remittances
  • The encroachment of urban uses into rural areas eg peri-urban land problems and the issue of small towns
  • Rural Real Estate problems
