CIV2262: Soil Mechanics

The course will focus on the classification of soils through origin of soil, its composition, physical and index properties. Mechanical characteristics and engineering behaviour of the soil will also considered. Failure criteria of loaded soil, stress distribution in soil mass due to soil self-weight or structural loads and lateral pressure created by disequilibrium of stress in soil mass will be analysed. The permeability and seepage will be analysed. The course will also consider the compressibility of clay material.
