PBLMP04: Solar Energy and Solar Lantern

Dear participants, welcome to this module of Solar Energy and Solar Lantern.  Less than one per cent of some country’s rural population has access to electricity. Households almost exclusively use wood fuel, the traditional source of energy, for cooking and other activities despite significant health and environmental concerns and failure to provide night-time lighting. The successful implementation of the projects from this module will help you to generate solar electricity from photovoltaic cells, used and provide lighting in off-grid rural areas of different countries through solar photovoltaic lanterns, thereby improving human activities like cooking, medical services and children’s education. This module will introduce to you about the following concepts : Solar energy, Solar electricity generation, Solar panel installation and maintenance, Solar lanterns and Solar thermal Energy.
