  • This unit aims at helping you acquire knowledge and skills in adapting educational practices to fit special educational needs (SEN) among learners in mainstream educational settings.

    Unit learning outcomes

    By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the inclusive education approaches;
    2. Explain the various ways in which educational practices can be adapted to fit the needs of learners with SEN in an inclusive school/classroom;
    3. Develop strategies of accommodating learners with SEN in an inclusive classroom and involving parents and the community in inclusive education.

    1. Learner Friendly School (LFS) approaches
    2. Resource rooms-based Inclusive strategies
    3. Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) strategies
    4. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approaches
    5. Adapting educational practices in an inclusive education school/classroom

              - Adaptation of the school curriculum

              - Adaptation of teaching/learning methods

              - Adaptation of teaching/learning resources

              - Educational areas to be adjusted for helping learners with SEN

              - Adaption of the school-community partnership

    Learning resources

    Read Unit 4 PPT and the article "Teaching strategies for learners with SNE" (Ranjeeta, 2018), and watch the videos illustrating "Inclusive practices in classroom" and "Differentiation within the inclusion classroom model".

    The purpose of this e-tivity 4.1 is to help you exchange ideas about examples of teaching/learning methods and resources that can be used in inclusive classroom situation.
