Basic Plastic Surgery I: General principles in wound healing, grafts, flaps and upper extremity trauma

This module aims at providing an in depth evidence-based and updated knowledge, clinical judgement, technical and basic operative skills and approach in wound healing, grafting, flaps and upper extremity trauma.

The course content is organized as follows:

Unit 1: 

  1. History of plastic surgery
  2. Wounds and wound healing
  3. Fundamental techniques in plastic surgery
  4.  Skin grafts and flaps
  5.  Pedicle flaps and free flaps
  6. Care of the surgical patient
  7. Nutrition and the surgical patient

Unit 2: 

  1. Hand/upper extremity I: Cadaver dissection Anatomy and upper limb cadaver-based flap course
  2. Hand/upper extremity I: Trauma, soft tissue injuries, flexor tendons
  3. Hand/upper extremity I: Trauma, nerve injuries and repair
  4. Hand/upper extremity I: Trauma, fractures
