The module aims at explaining the behaviour of Transition metals in comparison with non transition metals. Characteristics or Properties of Transition Metals: variable oxidation states, colour of Transition metal compounds, paramagnetism and diamagnetism of transition metals compounds.

Coordination compounds: definition, nomenclature and isomerism. Theories of formation of coordination compounds (complexes) and origin of their properties: Crystal Field Theory (CFT), Valence Bond Theory (VBT). Some applications of coordination compounds
