To provide essential quantitative concepts, methods, and tools needed for descriptive and analytical research and design of a study protocol in biomedical sciences.The module also covers human subject ethics principles and aim at helping students to identify and address ethical, legal and social implications of their research.
The module provides learners with knowledge and skills required to understand immunity to pathogenic microorganisms and how this can be explored for vaccine development/appraisal. It describes host immune responses to parasites, bacteria, fungi and viruses, immune-evasion, immunopathology, immuno-regulation, principles underlying vaccination and extrinsic factors influencing these immune responses. We also describe technologies used to study the immune system such as immuno-serology and systems biology (“omics”). Immunization principles, vaccine development and related challenges will also be covered.
