This module introduces you to Literature in English such as oral literature, drama, poetry, prose fiction and non-fictional literary works from various times and cultures of the world. Course texts will be selected from works across section of authors using the educational approach. The module is introductory in nature; defines different genres of literature, draws a distinction between oral and written literature, and then identifies educational values to facilitate the use of sample texts to closely study each of these genres with a view to understanding areas, like themes, characterization, plot, style and language use, among other things.

It is designed to provide a broad, integrated understanding of the educational components of fictional prose, including style, characterisation, setting, plot, and literary language use. It is a short survey of fiction which underlies educational values derived from literary study. The module will help learners develop writing, reading, and analytical skills.
LE80243 is a 10 credits course taught to year 1 students in the Literature in English with Education combinations.
