Learning outcomes: By the end of this module, students should be able to:
Knowledge and understanding:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1.1. Assess pharmacotherapeutics of broad categories of drugs.
1.2. Examine the physiologic actions of the major categories of pharmacologic
agents used in clinical practice.
1.3. Analyze the relationship between pharmacologic agents & physiologic and
pathologic responses.
1.4. Describe pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics of drugs.
2. Cognitive/Intellectual skills/Application of knowledge
2.1. Evaluate evidence-based guidelines and/or other parameters used to assess
therapeutic response and common side effects of the major categories of
pharmacologic agents used in clinical practice.
2.2. Assess the adherence, motivation, and culture of clients seeking prescriptions.
3. General transferable skills:
3.1. Examine genetic, ethical and legal considerations related to the administration
of drug therapy.

Unit 1. Pharmacological principles on drugs administration
· Definitions and scope of pharmacology
· Origin of drugs (source of drugs), Chemical properties of drugs
· Pharmaceutical properties and evaluation of new drugs
· Drug administration, absorption, metabolism and elimination
· Drugs’ Mode of action (transport and receptors)

Unit 2. Anti-infectious drugs:
antibiotics,
anti-parasitics,
anti-fungal
anti-viral, ARVs)
Anti-cancerics (chimiotherapy)
Unit 3. Cardiovascular drugs:
Antiarrhythmic, Anticholinergics, Antianginal
Inotropes and vasopressors,
anti-hypertensive, hypolipidemia,

Unit 5. Drugs acting on CNS:
Neuropharmacology (CNS/GABA/Glutamate) antidepressants/anxiolytics/ sed/ hypnotics/
