The module's aim is to enable students to understand the aetiologic factors and pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the development of the diseases covered in the module and demonstrate an understanding of the medical nutrition therapy of those diseases.
The objectives of the module are to:
- Show understanding of the pathophysiological abnormalities underlying the diseases
- Describe the nutritional problems associated with the diseases
- Describe the clinical features of the diseases using appropriate medical terminology.
- Demonstrate understanding of these conditions' medical management and nutrition therapy.
- Introduce students to the principles underlying the dietary modifications used in the patient's clinical management.
- Equip students to devise and construct appropriate dietary regimes for patients with these diseases.
- Train students to translate the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health, and disease into practical advice to facilitate behavior change and enable people to make appropriate lifestyle choices.
